With the construction of the Kathrin-Türks-Halle (abbreviated KTH, at that time still called Stadthalle) in 1973, the city of Dinslaken received a new event hall. Due to its location and purpose, it carries a special urban-functional significance for the entire city. The KTH is located in a representative location that is directly connected to the historic city park, the town hall and the old town. It is considered the key inner-city cultural institution. As a result of its central location on the edge of the old town, the Kathrin-Türks-Halle is easily accessible on foot, by public transport and by car. The underground car park which is directly connected to the building offers appropriate parking spaces for cars.
In recent years the KTH has also been frequently used by associations or comparable institutions, schools and other third parties for events of various kinds. Besides, events that are part of the city cultural programme were hosted.
However, the Kathrin-Türks-Halle requires considerable renovation and modernisation in terms of construction, energy, design and function. The concept and design no longer meet the current requirements for community facilities.
It is planned to renovate the Kathrin-Türks-Halle to reduce CO2 consumption. In addition, the creation of barrier-free access is planned. Necessary functional conversion measures mainly relate to the creation of multifunctional space offers, such as event offers for associations and initiatives. Those have been lacking in the city centre so far.
In order to significantly strengthen the cultural potential of Dinslaken, the Kathrin-Türks-Halle is to be upgraded both structurally and functionally. As a result of these measures, the municipal hall will function as a cultural key point.
The conversion of the KTH offers the opportunity to strengthen the urban as well as the middle class of Dinslaken. Besides, it creates an integrative place from which the surrounding districts can benefit. The central event location of the city of Dinslaken is to be opened up to the neighbourhood even more than before. Through a long-term sustainable, multifunctional utilisation concept a decisive added value for the urban society will be achieved. As a future "hall for all", the KTH can become an identity-forming place of community and culture in urban life and can facilitate a wider range of events.
