Kim Merz & Band
"I was only away for a moment"

KIM MERZ was born in Duisburg in 1953. He was on the road as a singer with the German rock band Wallenstein ("Charline") and as a solo artist ("Der Typ neben ihr"). He also wrote German lyrics for many colleagues, including the hit "Wahnsinn" for Wolfgang Petry. In the last 25 years, he ran a concert agency and accompanied the stage shows for artists such as Jürgen von der Lippe, Helge Schneider and many others.
We all know the phenomenon: on a certain occasion, memories of old times that we thought had long been buried come flooding back. So intensely that you think the years in between never happened. Everything is back! As if you had only been away for a short time...
This is what happened to Kim Merz when his son David gave him the idea of breathing new life into the old songs of WALLENSTEIN and the KIM MERZ BAND - some of them thought to be long dead - and to bring them back on stage with a band he had put together.
Kim Merz, who actually wanted to retire slowly (doesn't succeed anyway!) was thrilled! But are people still interested in the songs of WALLENSTEIN and the music of KIM MERZ? "If you put them in context with your anecdotes and stories from back then, definitely!" David Merz was sure of that.
And here it is, the little revue "SONGS & STORIES" of WALLENSTEIN and the KIM MERZ BAND, from ROCKPALAST to the tour with the SCORPIONS, from Ilja Richter's DISCO to the ZDF hit parade with Dieter Thomas Heck.
The balancing act between English songs like "Charline" by WALLENSTEIN and German songs by KIM MERZ like "Der Typ neben ihr" (In the original by WILLY DE VILLE) is absolutely successful! From the stage you hear melodic rock music from one mould with harmony vocals and two-part guitar solos, performed by a perfectly rehearsed band and the unmistakable voice of KIM MERZ.
Accompanied by stories and myths from the time between Krautrock and Neue Deutsche Welle. But beware: there will be no platform shoes, bell-bottoms or other disguises!
It will be exciting for those who, thanks to their late birth, only know this time at second hand. For all those who can (still) remember, it will be as if they had only been away for a short time! And they will hopefully wipe a few sentimental tears from their eyes after two hours and realise: "Nä, wat war dat schön" as the Ruhrgebietler likes to say.
